Mr. Anwar Sanusi, PhD is the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia. The Ministry of Manpower has the task to carry out government affairs in the labour and employment sector to assist the President in carrying out state governance. The Ministry carries out functions in formulation, stipulation and implementation of policies in the field of increasing labour competitiveness and productivity, increasing workforce placement and expanding employment opportunities; enhancing the role of industrial relations and labour social security, and also fostering labour inspection and occupational safety and health.

As the ex officio of Indonesia’s focal point for the Senior Labour Officials’ Meeting (SLOM) of ASEAN, Mr. Anwar Sanusi is the current Chair of SLOM for the period of 2020 – 2022. During the chairmanship, SLOM Chair has the roles to encourage the ASEAN Member States to initiate regional cooperation and national initiatives; facilitate, on behalf of SLOM and its subsidiary bodies, information sharing, coordination and collaboration with other relevant ASEAN Sectoral Bodies, ASEAN Dialogue Partners, other countries, international organisations, employers’ organisations, workers’ organisations, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders on labour-related issues; and represent SLOM at international and regional events.

Prior to his current designation, Mr. Anwar Sanusi served as the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Region, and Transmigration. He is also active in some of the International Academician Organisations, among others: the Belgian International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) and the Institute for Operation Research and Management Sciences (Informs) of the United States. He is also an active writer with 34 books and articles, which some of them published by international publishers. He achieved the winner of the National Graduate Institute for Policy Study (GRIPS) SDGs Award from Japan.

Mr. Anwar Sanusi graduated with a PhD’s degree from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Study (GRIPS) in Japan, a Master’s degree from the Graduate School of Policy Science of Saitama University in Japan, and a Bachelor of Government Science from Gadjah Mada University.
